Step 1: Professional Development Survey
In November 2013, teachers received a survey to gather their input about their professional development needs. The survey aimed to answer the questions "What?" and "When?". Based on the results, using the iPads across the curriculum and for formative assessment were the clear priorities, along with with close reading. The best times for professional development were less clear, demonstrating a need for flexible scheduling.
Step 2: Cycles of Learning
In order to allow for the maximum amount of support, professional development will be delivered in cycles. Each cycle will begin with two teaching sessions. The teaching sessions will be offered at different times to respect individuals' different schedules. Teachers can choose to attend one session, or attend both if they would like to hear the material a second time.
After the teaching, drop-in support will be available on three separate dates. At those times, either the TF, LRC Director, or IC will be on call to provide trouble-shooting and collaboration. Individual appointments are also always available.
The last step of the cycle is a sharing session, where teachers come together to share practical ideas and examples of the ways they applied their learning in the classroom.
